Idén június 3. és 5. között kerül megrendezésre a Karancs-Medves vidék egyik legjelentősebb, legnívósabb programsorozata, a Medvesi Fotós Maraton.
A Medvesen, a terület méretéhez mérve a legsűrűbb hazánkban a középkori várromok aránya, itt található Közép-Európa legnagyobb bazaltfennsíkja. A Karancs vidékével ezt a tájat tartják a palócság központjának. Az 550 méter magasságban húzódó fennsík alföldi pusztára hasonlít, a mélybe lefutó völgyek kárpáti jellegű területek, a magas hegységekre jellemző élővilággal. Úgy tűnik, itt települ meg a barnamedve újra a 21. században hazánkban. Itt voltak Magyarország legmagasabban fekvő szénbányái, itt faragták a macskaköveket, amelyekkel Budapest utcáit is fedték a 19. században. Itt ered a Zagyva és a Tarna.
Itt alakult meg Európa legelső határon átnyúló geoparkja. A Medves hazánk egyik legváltozatosabb és legszebb tája – és ma még szinte teljesen ismeretlen. A klíma szubalpin, az élővilág változatos, a sziklák látványosak, az emberek barátságosak, a napnyugta fenséges, a táj lenyűgöző.

The Medves Photo Marathon, one of the most important, most prestigious event of Karancs-Medves region, will be organized between 3 and 5 June 2016.
In Hungary, Medves features the most medieval castle ruins (on the basis of the surface of the area) and here lies the biggest basalt plateau of Central- Europe. With the area of Karancs, it is considered to be the center of „Palotsland”. The 550 meter high plateu looks pretty similar to a great plain „puszta”, but with Carpatian-look deep valleys and with the wildlife of high mountains. Brown bear seems to feel like settling down here again in 21st century. Hungary’s highest coal mines were here, and also cobblestone used to cover the streets of Budapest was carved here. Rivers Zagyva and Tarna arise from in this land.
Europe’s first cross-border geopark (Novohrad-Nógrád UNESCO Geopark) has been founded here. Medves is one of the most diverse and most beautiful landscapes of our country – and is almost completely unknown and undiscovered yet. Its climate is subalpine, its wildlife and fauna is diverse, the cliffs are spectacular, the people are friendly, the sunset is majestic, the scenery is stunning.
